Scrap Time 2.0

SCRAP TIME

[verse 1]
can i tell you it hurts
to be on your list
just another of a thousand items
that you have to do
i can see it's true

you fill up your life
with so much shit
that when i call
it always goes to voicemail
just another fail

[chorus]
i want to be more
and i want to mean more
yes i need to be more than
'drop off the laundry and go the store'

Why do I take
oh why do i take
why do i take
your scrap time?

why can't i mean
why can't i mean
as much to you
as you mean to me?

[verse 2]
do you realize that i cry
when i'm all alone
like your scorned little dog
begging at the door
how can you ignore?

so i'll write you a song
maybe you'll listen now
to what this cruel neglect does to me
I hope you feel guilty

[chorus]
i want to be more
and i want to mean more
yes i need to be more than
'drop of the laundry and go to the store'

Why do I take
oh why do i take
why do i take
your scrap time?

why can't i mean
why can't i mean
as much to you
as you mean to me?

(musical interlude)

[chorus]
i want to be more
and i want to mean more
yes i need to be more than
'rewrite my essay and read Sir Thomas More'

i just can't stop
i just can't stop
making my heart long to be with you

so i will keep on
i will keep on
savoring scrap time with you

Gray

Gray

(v1)
Midnight in London
Eighteen ninety three
tucked away from prying eyes
worshiping beauty

I was so earnest
you were so pale
as I fingered dancing curls
with a trembling exhale

I earned your laughter
with some offhand witty phrase
and you crept into my blood
with your opulent gaze

(chorus)
No one could see what you had hidden away
stashed in your closet, painted to betray
your gilded armor was to cover the decay
and I watched those blue eyes I adored fade to gray

(v2)
Midday in London,
Eighteen ninety five
the gavel crashed straight down
in an eloquent nosedive

your father reddened
but we never felt the shame
the wind was hot with whispers
they dared not speak its name

I can't remember
how I used to make you smile
you ask me not to try
you'd like to cry for a while

(chorus)
No one could see what you had hidden away
stashed in your closet, painted to betray
your gilded armor was to cover the decay
and I watched those blue eyes I adored fade to gray

I couldn't see what you had hidden away
stashed in your closet, painted to betray
your gilded armor was to cover the decay
and I watched those blue eyes I adored fade to gray

We will be working on getting parts for everyone on Katharine, In or Out, and Puppet Master.

Katharine:
Completed: lyrics, vocals, rhythm guitar, bass, piano
Needs: a part for Noah. We have a little bit of a lead guitar worked out but it needs work. Also needs background vocals.

In or Out:
Completed: lyrics, vocals, rhythm guitar
Needs: bass, Sarah and Noah need parts... or one of them can take my part and I'll just sing or do something else. also needs background vocals. Did any of you have ideas for any parts at the last band meeting that you put in your notes?

The Puppet Master:
Completed: lyrics, vocals, rhythm guitar, bass
Needs: more work on background vocals, part for noah, possible fourth part? any ideas here?

Please use this post to put in suggestions, ideas, comments, criticism, praise... whatever... so people can start getting ready for working on this stuff at the band meeting!

I will use this, roughly, to make the schedule. I am going to give Noah a little more time to work on the blue jeans song so we'll skip it for a couple weeks.

This week we will be working on:

in or out
Katharine
Puppet Master

Katharine and Puppet Master are basically done so that will be easy. In or Out needs more parts. =P

I am going to open a new thread to discuss.

Janice

Janice thinks we should cover:

Covers!

Ben Folds - Still (from over the hedge)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-39eLRMqYg

Ben Folds - Tiny Dancer (Elton John cover!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g06RXYsksRg

Ben Folds - Jesusland
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjqiQQ2L1qA&feature=user

Just some ideas. <3

In Addition

...to Elizabeth's list of various covers (the only one I think is completely silly is Rocket Man - seriously... when Shatner's done a song that way, one cannot go back), I'm going to propose these songs:

Don't Stop Believing - Journey

Fragile - Sting

Don't Let the Sun (Go Down on Me) - Elton John

Um... and some more I can't remember. Because its 2:30 in the morning. More later.

Liz's possible covers!!

Here are the songs I want to cover!
(besides sarah's awesome picks of apologize and dreaming with a broken heart)

My Sweet Lord - George Harrison
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ls8Mhoafn0
I want Noah to sing leads and the rest of us background vocals. This will be the greatest thing ever. This song comes on in the deli a lot and I heard it on the radio today. It's a total ear worm. LOL.
((OMG. here's a john mayer version!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPxiF330HSY))

Fields of Gold - Sting
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UppX6vP3c4g
A beautiful classic song. Amber already has the bass and I know I can sing it. It'll make the audience sway.

Bend and Break - Keane
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ke6iwn71l0I&feature=related
Keane fucking rocks. It was this one or 'everybody's changing' and this one is more upbeat. We'd have to improv a guitar part, tho. LOL.

The Scientist
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Kd7IGPyeg
Gorgeous song and it was a popular single! We have some parts already and I can sing it ... well... I like to think so. LOL.

Oh wow. I just found an awesome female vocal version of the scientist...
Natasha Bedingfield

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsUK4mlv9m0&feature=related

Viva La Vida
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvgZkm1xWPE
Yes, I know this song has instruments that we can only dream of... but we can do an acoustic version! This song comes on the radio like every 15 minutes right now so the audience should definitely be surprised to hear our version. I've played it with guitar only and sang and it sounds fab. LOL.

Rocket Man - Sir Elton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzrKlEtxTx4
I haven't actually tried to sing this one yet... but I think it would rock. =D

Calling You - Blue October
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsvoTkx1mQY

Sunday Morning - Maroon 5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xvl5NIYRMo
This was my very favorite song a couple years ago.

summer squeeze

verse 1:
you were my summer squeeze
my muse, my little tease
you had me tripping out
with those sweet lips of yours
(repeat)

chorus 1:
now it's fall and we've both moved on
but i can't say i regret
those secret kisses
and special hugs

verse 2:
though i wish i could still
be your little plaything
i'm glad you've found your
full-time squeeze

i never got a chance
to taste your honey pot
i never got past
first base with you

chorus 2:
if you'd like a third for company
you know i'm up for it baby
but i'm just glad i found
such a good friend in you

back to verse 1 (play only once this time)

(posted the mp3 in the box to your right)
*Edit: The up tempo version is up now

Probably Rubbish...

...but I think it sounds kinda pretty. Then again, my guitar may be out of tune, but I'm too lazy to fix it right now.

D -2-
A -3-

I'm just to lazy to look up what that chord is actually called)

I don't have anything this goes to either. Heh.

Hey, now no one can say I didn't contribute!

I got this list directly off this website so if I forgot anything it's because no one has posted the lyrics on here yet. According to this list we have 24 songs. We need to aim for about 10 to work on... although some of these songs are really, really short... more like half a song... so we could probably comfortably fit more than 10 in to a set and not seem like we are going on forever.

ricky ricky

verse 1:
sitting in the corner
wearing your fancy fur coat
you smugly glance my way
seeming rather pleased with yourself

we play a staring game
damn, you're pretty good
with those mismatched eyes
you stare right back,
and you kinda freak me out

chorus:
i wonder what's going on
in that little brain of yours
you're fickle, you little brat
but still i love you

verse 2:
when i come home
late at night, weary from the day
you dart around, chasing shadows
and all you want to do is play

ricky, ricky, you're so weird
in all your quirky ways
you're so vain you think
i wrote this song for you
oh wait, i guess i did

refrain:
sometimes you shit on my carpet
and you leave your hair everywhere

Some Recordings

Eh, its easier than email, and I don't have any CDs.

Second Chance is fresh - the timing's a little off but I don't want to sit here and fix it. Its late and there's a delay on Audacity. It is actually fairly accurate after the first little bit. Eh, you get the idea.

Take You In test 1 - the early cut of Hansel and Gretel before it had a name (and may be getting another name change)

Mango - Liz, the guitar, and a microphone. I haven't edited the new one yet but it'll be up tomorrow (in the same flash box).

In or Out - same as Mango.

We also have Survive recorded, and Katharine... um... I think that's it.

Structure!!

Alright, alright! I hear you!! It has been brought to my attention that the band needs to start getting some structure in meetings so that we can work towards our goal of playing for more people than can fit in my bedroom.

This is what we are going to do.

The next full band meeting we have... where everyone can make it:

We will play every single song we have written so far (even songs we played once then wandered away from). Everyone will have paper and pens and will take notes. Everyone get all your songs and song ideas together and bring them to rehearsal.

After that meeting everyone will go on their own and make a list of their ideal setlist. Pick 10 original songs that we have and type them on this blog. These are not the songs that you necessarily like the best or think are the best... they are the songs that you think would make the best set. We will need a mix of slow, fast, happy, sad, etc, etc....

Obviously we have more than 10 songs that we are working on so some songs will be left out. We just all need to agree not to get defensive or hurt if a song we write doesn't make the cut. This is business time so no feelings!! (Yes, I am talking to myself.)

We can then take the lists and cross-reference them. The songs that get the least number of votes get eliminated. I figure we will probably end up with a list of 10-15 songs. These will be the songs we need to work on.

Other band rehearsals:

Each band rehearsal we will pick 2 songs that we really focus on but we will play all the songs that we have worked on so far at least once.

Band Rehearsal Schedule:

1. Everyone show any new material they are working on. New chord progressions or lyrics. We can discuss new stuff as a band and see what's going on.

2. Play one - three songs that we have worked on so far.

3. Rehearse last week's focus song. This should be the song that we worked on at the end of the last band meeting. We can work on getting all the timing smoothed out and making sure we can play it together flawlessly.

4. Play one - 3 songs

5. Work on this week's focus song. Now we will work on getting everyone parts to a song that we haven't focused on yet. This will be the most creative part as we try to get a song together. We can also take this time to record the parts that we have down and email them to everyone so we can practice. Then everyone can individually work on their part at home and be ready for working on playing it together at the next band meeting....

5. Play the rest of the songs we haven't played yet.

6. Go hang out and act stupid.

This would be the schedule for each week's main band meeting... as long as everyone is there. If there is a week when someone can't make it than we can just work on individual parts to which ever songs.

Once we create our 'set list' I can make a schedule of when we will work on which song and post it on this blog. The set list we make isn't set in stone... but I think it will be a good starting point to make sure that we get songs going.

Is everyone in agreement about this? Please post a comment and let me know if you agree to this... have any modifications... hate it... love it... whatever...

An addendum:

Noah pointed out in the comments that I forgot to mention covers. He has a great idea.

We need to schedule a band meeting where we get together and everyone brings 5 cover songs that they would like to put in for consideration. We can take some time and listen to them all and discuss. This way we can choose which songs we are going to cover as an informed group. Start looking around for songs that we can cover and get them on a CD.

Try to pick songs that are widely known, that we can actually pull off playing, and that I can actually sing. LOL. Obviously we can take songs and modify them to suit us but let's not get too ambitious just yet.

Oh, and bonus points if you bring a Coldplay song. =P~

15 August 2008

Of Covers and Gigs

I know we have a bit to go before we start playing outside someone's living room, but I think we need to kind of kick it in gear. It seems to me we work on our stuff during the week alone, but at the meetings we play maybe two or three songs once through and then call it a day.

Elizabeth spoke to a girl that played at the HCD the other day, and she said she plays about one cover to every two original songs when she plays shows. An average (short) set is about 45 minutes, so a rough estimate is 12 songs total. 8 SD songs and 4 covers, and some chatting with the audience. We should really have about 10 SD songs and 5 covers just to make sure.

Running through a tally, here's what we have:

Katharine: Pretty much done. It has guitar, piano, and a bass line. My opinion is that it needs lead guitar during the musical interlude more than it needs a drum line. I don't know if anyone agrees with me on that - but when I hear the interlude I hear Sarah's kick ass piano, me and Liz trying to keep the rhythm, and a really clean, clear, melody-esque lead guitar bit.

Second Chance: Also pretty much done. Rhythm and bass are for the most part where we want it to be, and the lead guitar is coming along - I had a bit of trouble hearing it when we jammed last time because I was right next to my amp and could only hear myself (heh). I think this one would sound killer with some type of deep rhythmic something.

That's basically it. And it isn't for lack of trying - but the problem we're facing right now is most of the songs only one person knows how to play. I think that maybe we should take the next few band meetings to really pick only one song to really focus on. We need to all know the songs. This means that whoever wrote the song needs to kind of take the helm and make sure the other members know how it is supposed to sound and how to play it. We all play guitar (some better than others), there's no reason why we shouldn't know how to play the rhythm of each song. The recordings are great, but nothing compared to serious one on one, slowing down the tempo and learning.

I think we should take the next couple months and get intimately familiar with the rest of our song base. According to the girl that played the deli we need about 6-8 more original songs and about 4 covers. I know we all kind of agreed that we wanted to do Across the Universe, so that's one. Elizabeth and I want to do Don't Stop Believin' by Journey. I know its silly but Elizabeth's voice sounds really cool singing it, and I already know the bass line so that's a step forward. I know Sarah has mentioned Happy Together by The Turtles. There's three. But can we play them? Do we know them inside out?

This upcoming Sunday I think we should take some time and decide which songs we want to focus on to prepare for lives. I think Katharine and Second Chance are a given, I submit those two. So we need 6-8 more. I think everyone should have a say and pick two songs each that we should focus on to get us to 10? I don't know how we are going to want to approach that.

I dunno. I didn't really anticipate this post being this long, either.

  • G#/D#, D#sus4, G#/C, Cm

  • G, C, G, C, G#, F, G, C
    A#, G#, G, D#, D-D#, D, C
C+, F, Cmaj, F#maj, and then some weird-ass symbol that looks like this. I think I already have a song for this one but I can't remember it right now.

EBEAGEDAB (Bdim chord on the end)
  • Here is some crummy unrelated tablature i wrote next to the cliffnotes of my version of the mango tree song:

survive

Here is an almost finished song... I already have guitar for it. I'm working on the rest of the verses now. ciao.

she was a young girl who needed to believe
that she belonged to something bigger than herself
he was a young boy who always had the feeling
that he could be bigger than anybody else

the fates conspired to bring them to each other
a couple kindred spirits in a small Texas town
Together they wandered aimlessly through empty streets
weaving mass conspiracies about everything around

(CHORUS)
and they were running through the graveyard
making up stories and chasing demons
running through the churchyard
searching for signs that god's alive

living in that small town
trying not to lose themselves
living in their own world
just trying to survive

She never noticed dark circles underneath his eyes
etched there by the secrets that he thought he couldn't share
Sometimes he noticed a glimpse of shame darken her face
he wanted to ask her why, but he didn't dare

(CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)
Midsummer evenings can cast a spell to ease teenage pain
Tucked away graveyards can become magic lands in the mind
They didn't know that the secrets that they kept were the same
When will they realize that beneath it they were two of a kind

23 July 2008

good-bye

i wrote a dear john letter today
the words flowed easily
and i said i was through with him
still my heart won't let go

he said i'd regret it someday
but i feel no remorse for
shielding my heart from his
jagged words that wound me

i said goodbye,
now why don't you
go on and leave my heart

i don't need
the self-contempt
you breed in me
good-bye

you've accused and betrayed
but in the same breath you plead
for my trust, my respect
but you threw those away yourself

i'm done living under the tyranny
of your impossible standards
i'm done hating myself
because i don't measure up

15 July 2008

damocles

this one's jazzy and as usual, full of pathos

verse 1:
i blame myself for ignoring
damocles' sword hanging
over my head, dangling,
teasing, waiting for it to drop

i knew you had it in you
your words have finally been released
like a dagger thrusting downward
piercing straight through my heart

chorus:
but i didn't ask for this
did i provoke you in some way?
your fragile self-restraint is shattered,
and now your words pierce me

why'd you have to go on
and label me these awful things?
i'd rather take the label
of not yours

verse 2:
i blame myself for placing my
self-worth in your opinion of me
daddy has held the admiring gaze
of these big blue hopeful eyes

well it's too bad you require
too much from me
if i can never measure up
am i doomed to self-hate?

14 July 2008

the puppet master

verse 1:
she prances you around
like her own personal puppet
controlling every move you make
changing every thought you think

chorus:
hey, you don't need her
she's just a bottom-feeder
she'll hook into you and suck you dry
she'll drain you of your life

verse 2:
she steals your strength
'cause she has none
she'll take it all if you don't
stand up for yourself

untitled

i suck at titles. you guys need to come up with a title for this one.

verse 1:
you must feel
so righteous in your indignation
your fear has gripped you
and your anger burns you up

if i could make you listen
i might give it a shot
but you've already tuned me out
you'll never give it a second thought

chorus:
why don't you step in my shoes?
feel the pain that has ravaged my soul
why don't you try on reality for a day?
what would it take to make you live out
this empathy you proclaim?

verse 2:
i can't hear your claims
of humility over the din
of your obnoxious self-righteousness
you plug your ears and pretend you're okay

you'll try to fix me with
your formulas and scripture verses
you can't get your hands dirty
you can't listen and just be here

02 July 2008

nos caemos bien

v.1
you're so captivating
it's not safe for me
to glance at you
for too long

i might drown in the depths
of your deep blue eyes
i might lose myself
i might lose control

you're like my kryptonite
my knees go weak
when i'm around you
and i can't stop from falling for you

chorus:
it's too late
i've already fallen for you
i can't change this fact
i can only delay my destiny

i know i want you
it just won't work right now
i'd love a little taste
but i know i'd take it all

v.2
why'd you have to come along
so unexpected and change
my plans, my future,
that path i was walking

i can't turn back now
i can't look away
i can't break my gaze with the one
my heart truly belongs to

refrain:
maybe we can wait a while
till i'm not so torn
and you're not so scared

Cover #1 - Across the Universe

At the band meeting today we decided that the first song we want to learn for covering at gigs is Across the Universe.

Here is the best chord tab I could find.

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/b/beatles/across_the_universe_crd.htm

Here it is on YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj-4t9drUlM

This piano version looks pretty cool... I don't think its accurate but it sounds neat.

brown paper bag

I wrote this song in a brown paper bag
so no one else can see just how I feel

I wrote this song on an old piece of trash
so I can stash it somewhere and never reveal

that I can't help but feel that there's something in your eyes
that could ruin my whole life if I don't look away in time

I'll keep this song all to myself
hidden on the inside of
a brown paper bag

crap of the world

edit: now has music! yay! (it's another peppy one)

v.1
we are all slaves to something
i'm not saying it's right or wrong
all i know is sometimes
being a slave takes part of your soul

some people are slaves to their religion
i used to be there myself
others say 'yes sir' to their jobs, to society
entrapped by their own fear

chorus:
they wear their fancy tokens
in a stupid game of vanity
but their souls are vapid
and gone is their identity

i don't want to be like them
i don't want to be the
all-singing, all-dancing
crap of the world

v.2
i've seen a lot of people
enslaved by image and consumerism
it's a sad sight to see
someone afraid to just be

they say that destiny
is not a matter of chance
it's all about choice
i'd rather be in control
than be a blind automaton

are we ever really free?
there are so many things
bidding for control of our souls
and we ignorantly comply

untitled

this one sounds fairly peppy compared to some other ones i've written. i may add to it later... just pulled this one from the archives and came up with a tune to it tonight.

v.1
i feel the strongest
when he wraps me in his arms
his strength surrounds me
and becomes my own

joy is renewed in me
at the sound of his laughter,
the sight of his playful grin,
our silly little inside jokes

chorus:
i love it how he
makes me feel
perfectly safe,
loved and cherished

i love it how our hearts
unite together
in this unseen,
deeply felt dance

v.2
his calmness tames
the wildest anxieties within
his acceptance and confidence
wrap me up, glue me together

The thing i never meant to be (incomplete)

This is a song that I have been working on for a while... usually while in my shower. it has a tune but needs to be filled out and completed.

The thing I never meant to be

I can't believe the person I've turned out to be
five years ago I'd have slapped my own face
it seems impossible that this was deep inside all along

I hear you say
you didnt raise me this way

(Chorus)
I never meant to be your sworn enemy
I never meant to be the thing that you despise
and I
I never meant to be anything to embarrass you
but I can't change
The things I never meant to be

bridge:
sometimes in life you find yourself travelling down a path
but you don't know how you got there

how can you make you way back to the place you were
when you can't retrace your steps?

and don't think that I don't notice the sudden silence that's stolen
the air now that you know
now you know
The wrinkles outline the empty space were once you use to smile at me
You use to smile at me

Becca buys a new life (song scraps)

Here are little lines that I have thought up from my song about the girl who buys a life at walmart.

Becca rose today
and said "Hey! This is my life, but I don't want it!
I want all the things that I have seen in movies and on tv."

But she had bills to pay
and only $15 in her pocket

So she hopped into the car
A ¼ tank can't get her far

With only $15 she bought a brand new life

Well if you want a life worth more
you must go further than the corner store

Disclaimer (song snip)

I am trying to decide which direction to take this song. i am inclined to not add many more words... but there could be more... hmm... hard to say. sarah and i banged out an awesome tune once so we need to pick it back up.

Disclaimer

Don't fall for me
Don't fall for me
I'll only break your heart
don't fall for me

I'll lead you on
I'll write you love songs
but in the end I'll flee
don't fall for me.

Listen

verse 1:
I know you're scared
I see you trembling
I see you reaching for
something to hold onto

You miss her so
You call out for her
Even though it's been 20 years
she's been gone

chorus:
But when you're all alone
and you're crying and shaking
I want you to know,
I'll be there

When you miss her so,
just call out to me
I'm here for you
to hang onto

verse 2:
You're so confused
It seems like yesterday
When she was there
holding you

Venus and Adonis (song scrap)

This has a slow tune but this is all I have. I have absolutely no idea what this song should be about. It could go many different ways. Any ideas?

Well I, I am, no goddess of love
and you, my dear, are no perfect roman stud
but Venus chased Adonis all over those old hills
and I, I'll keep on, chasing you.

in or out

in or out

(v1)

sometimes i wonder how would things be different
if things weren't the same
would i be enamored with your temperament?
your cherry blossom game?

(prechorus)
would i even want you
if you could be mine?

(chorus)
how would i feel
if my feelings were real
if they actually counted for anything
anyway

would i rush to your arms
or away from your charm
would we fall in or out?
in or out of love?

(v2)
I can't remember the first time I saw you face
but now your lips haunt my songs
But would I treasure each fleeting, stolen kiss
if no one said they were wrong?

(prechorus 2)
Am I only longing for
things I shouldn't have?

Chorus

Casey (song idea)

I have an idea for a song. It needs to be really upbeat. its about a guy who is fun and quirky who is basically living a life that is obviously heading for a dead end. i dont want it to be too preachy or down, though. i want the verses to mostly focus on quirks he has... stuff like that. maybe tell a story about the singer and casey being friends or whatever. i'm working on it.

i have a chorus:

and i said, "casey, someday I'm gonna write a song about... you...

Casey is never gonna be a rock star
he just wanted to get high so he pawned off his guitar
i always thought someday he'd make the whole crowd scream
i guess this is the end of another rock star dream

when she smiles that smile

v1
sarah's got a little secret
i can see it in her eyes
i can hear it in her footsteps
and the cadence of her sighs

c1
and i know i'll never know what's going on
when sarah smiles that smile

v2
sarah says just what she's thinking
although that changes day to day
sometimes she thinks she likes bananas
other times she says she's gay

c2
nobody can be sure
what's going on with this girl
and nobody, nobody knows what's going on
when sarah smiles that smile

[musical interlude]

b1
sarah is so pretty
anyone can see that
sarah is so funny
humor flows so effortlessly
but sarah hides a secret
and nobody can see it
deep in her heart

[musical interlude 2]

c2
nobody can be sure
what's going on with this girl
and nobody, nobody knows what's going on
when sarah smiles that smile

dada

Dada

the child's voice was nothing but a hoarse whisper
now, the fruit flavor of these tarts is a deliciously nuanced sweet-sour
before the sun set something did happen

he saw trees, lawns, walks twisting up the hillsides, steps cut in the stone,
he saw fountains, swimming pools, tennis courts – and not a sign of life
sometime along toward daylight i went to sleep

((insert CHORUS))

the boys in our class came over and wanted to know what was going on
never told brother the other dream
the living room was packed with about two dozen guests seated on chairs placed against the walls

if you have anything to say, my man, you better say it
the two young ladies were summoned from the shrubbery where this conversation passed
that should have ended the greek boy's turn at being the jackass

((CHORUS))

but there was one who did not fear him: there was one prepared to enter that circle
she said nothing, but she knew it was true
he stuttered to a halt

angry as i was, all we all were, i was tempted to laugh when he opened his mouth
he spoke quite rationally to me
she screamed for him to help her, to save the baby

scrap time

SCRAP TIME

[verse 1]
can i tell you it hurts to be on your list
just another of a thousand items that you have to do
i can see its true

you fill up your life with so much shit
that when i call it always goes to voicemail
just another fail

[verse 2]
can i tell you that i cry when i'm all alone
sitting around just waiting for your call
but it doesn't come at all

and my friends all tell me to just move on
to find another lover who won't leave me singing blues
but i just want you

[chorus]
i want to be more
and i want to mean more
yes i need to be more than 'drop off the laundry and go the store'

Why do I take
oh why do i take
why do i take
why do i take your scrap time?

why can't i mean
why can't i mean
why can't i mean
as much to you as you mean to me?

i just can't stop
i just can't stop
i just can't stop
making my heart long to be with you

so i will keep on
i will keep on
i will keep on
savoring scrap time with you

[verse 3]

This is a place for incomplete song ideas!

...for example, that idea Wizzy had about a break-up song about jesus blossomed in to a beautiful flower under Sarah's tender love and care.  I bet this would happen a lot if we were all just barfing song ideas all over the place.  If you think of ANYTHING that might could be a good song, post it here.  Please.

untitled

v.1
you're just not into me
admit it, you never were
our friendship was a mere convenience,
a situational by-product

why do i always end up
with friends like you
who only care when it benefits you,
you're only there if you feel like it

chorus:
i'm so stupid,
i believed you when you promised
you'd be there for me,
we'd always be friends

i'm so stupid,
for thinking you'd be different
i'm just a waste of your time,
and you're the same to me now

v.2
what did i do wrong?
i'm so easy to get along with
i'll give my all to you,
i'm not afraid to commit

now you act like we never met
i'm just an afterthought
what the hell is wrong with me?
do i have some kind of disease?

bridge:
forget it,
i'll just go hug myself
forget you,
i'll never give away my heart again

the leech

v.1
she didn't know what
she was getting into
having a kid like me
so independent

she said i needed too much,
she said i screwed up too much,
she said i was not enough

chorus:
you're empty and you'll always be
a black hole, sucking the life out of everything you touch,
because you always take, you grab,
and you take and you never give
so your heart will never be filled

v.2
she said i'd have to change
who i was would simply not do
how dare i be a child,
how dare i take the spotlight off of you

you're so dramatic,
it would be funny if it didn't hurt so bad
you're always grabbing,
and grabbing, and grabbing, and grabbing,
but i've got nothing left to give

refrain:
i need more, i need you, i hate you, i need you
just make up your fucking mind
just get out of my life

worst boyfriend ever

One day when I was just a girl
my friends introduced me to this guy
he was something really special,
everyone adored him

So I met him and we became
the best of friends
we always hung out together...
and then I fell in love

He asked me to let him in my heart
He promised he'd never leave me
He said he'd always be here, within reach
And I believed him, oh what a mistake

(chorus)
Jesus, Jesus, where did you go?
you came in my heart and you made a big
fucking mess out of me
You trashed it and broke it
and left me empty, disillusioned

(refrain)
lalalalalalalalala

(v2)
You were the worst boyfriend ever
You said, call me anytime, I'll be there
So I called when I needed you
But you never picked up the damn phone

You said, hey little sweetie,
If you need a hug, just come to me
So I took off running after you,
Searching for that comfort
But you were nowhere to be found

piety

Piety

You hide behind your religion
it's your shield to protect you
from all those dirty heathens

You're afraid of us all because
we're just so sinful
you can't contaminate your precious little soul

you talk about this unconditional love
all the while preaching damnation to us,
because we suck, and you're just so holy

(chorus)
oh, you silly christian
your head is so fucked up (2nd time- your head is so far up your ass; 3rd time- what the hell is wrong with you?)
you can't see the need
that stares you right in the face

oh, stupid christian
what would jesus think of you?
nevermind, that's right-
your best friend is just a fairy tale

(v2)
you hide your head in the sand
talking a mouthful of crap
that doesn't even make sense

and all the while,
people around you are dying
desperate for this hope that you made up

(refrain)
pious, pissy people
why don't you take a sip of your own drink?
that enticing, bitter drink
that leaves you dry and empty

hmm

i wrote some hit-and-miss poetry that is located:

You'll never know

you'll never know

you'll never know

how good we are together

you'll never know

how much I make you smile

you'll never know

our love – it lasts forever

you'll never know

how I make your life worthwhile

from the moment we met

we've had a love we'll never forget

don't you regret

you told me no

you'll never smell

the flowers that surround you

you'll never taste

the sweat on my skin

you'll never hear

the songs I sing about you

you'll never see

me smile again

from the second we started this game

nothing has been the same

you can't say that I am to blame

you let me go

you'll never feel

my kisses captivate you

you'll never feel

me fuck you late at night

you'll never feel

my arms slipping around you

you'll never feel

me squeeze so tight

from the moment we met

we've had a love we'll never forget

don't you regret

you told me no

from the second we started this game

nothing has been the same

you can't say that I am to blame

you let me go

you'll never know

Katharine

Katharine

Tears fall from his blue eyes
like a pouring rain from a clear sky
Tears fall down to dry dirt
making rivers on her brown shirt

She doesn't know how to stop him
He doesn't know when he should
She's thinking "why's life uncertain?"
He's thinking, "damn, life is good"

And then the tears fall
His tears fall
The tears fall
His stubborn tears fall

She walks through the city
like a lost child on the playground
She walks on his eyelash
if she falls in then she might drown

She doesn't know how to tell him
He wouldn't listen if she tried
Her heart is full of confusion
His heart is full of pride

And then the tears fall

His tears fall
The tears fall
His stubborn tears fall

[MUSICAL INTERLUDE]

He takes her into the bedroom
He has ideas of romance
She doesn't know how to love him
He doesn't know that she can't

And then the tears fall His tears fall
The tears fall
His stubborn tears fall

hansel and gretal

Hansel and Gretal
I'll take you in
for a while
while the sun shines
while the bird sings
I'll take you in
with a smile
then I'll toss you out
when you're nothing
and I will break your heart
rip it from your chest
throw away the rest
but I will keep your broken heart
put it on a shelf
save it for myself
I'll take you in
with a smile
give you answer
to your questions
I'll take you in
for a while
then I'll leave you in the darkness
without protection
and I will break your heart
rip it from your chest
throw away the rest
but I will keep your broken heart
put it on a shelf
save it for myself

second chance

Second Chance
I see you searching for a reason to stay
looking for answers in books, songs, and therapy
there are no words that can change what I've done
I searched for answers in the arms of someone
else
I still love you
can you believe me when I say that its true
I still love you
I see you searching for clues in my eyes
for signs of love
or a way to detect a lie
can you forgive me for what I have done?
I earned this letter in the arms of someone
else
But I still love you
can you believe me when I say that it's true?
I still love you
I see you searching for a reason to stay
I only have one thing to say
I still love you

under the mango tree

Under the Mango Tree

I know I called you at a very inconvenient time
Your crazy world keeps spinning while this dreamer's asleep

All I ask is for a chance to kiss you
under the mango tree

I know you are so high above I could never deserve you
but if you fall, you'll be glad to have someone down here to catch you

I'll never be the girl of your dreams
but can I kiss you one time
under the mango tree?
All I ask is for a chance to kiss you
under the mango tree
